There are some exceptional whites in the 2024 vint

There are some exceptional whites in the 2024 vintage, and the two Barsac-based dry whites from the Dubourdieu family are right up there with the best of the vintage - and they are being released today.

Produced by Jean-Jacques Dubourdieu, the 100% Sauvignon Blanc Grand Vin Sec of Doisy-Daëne has been produced for a number of years years, now joined since the 2023 vintage by a 100% dry Sémillon, called Sémillon sur Calcaire, cuvée 1948.

First produced to celebrate 100 years of the Dubourdieu family at this Barsac property, cuvée 1948 comes from their oldest vines and is fermented and aged entirely in barrel - a brilliant wine in 2024, as is its 100% Sauvignon Blanc sibling. Both stopped me in my tracks while tasting - notes out on the site today, with the rest of the 2024 En Primeur Tasting Report out on Thursday.

The last day of our Bordeaux and Books series, I can’t believe it. Three weeks of En Primeur tasting finishing up today.

A huge thank you to @juliafrancoalbino and @winesearcher for accompanying me on this journey through Bordeaux wine in literature - we have so many more that we didn’t have time to include; this region has definitely inspired many writers and artists through the centuries.

Finishing up with one of my favourite books about Bordeaux, part of a trilogy about Eleanor d’Aquitaine by Elizabeth Chadwick. All three are brilliant, and seem perfectly appropriate for our final choice, as she is surely the great great (great great...) grandmother of En Primeur, bringing Bordeaux wine to the world...!

And thank you to all of you for joining in and sending us your suggestions, with a special thank you to David Marin, sommelier and wine tour guide based in Bordeaux, who matched us with quotations of his own every day.
