On the road with Sarah Kemp and Jane Anson as they taste through Bordeaux 2024 - here giving their first impressions of the wines after two weeks of tastings. Find out which wines stand out as bright spots among the vintage, if we can claim it as a Left or Right Bank, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot year... and why this might be the time to try those big named estates that have been priced out of reach for most consumers for so long.
The 2024 vintage En Primeur season is underway. Jane Anson and Sarah Kemp discuss the likely highs and lows of the year, checking in before tasting on they key things to look out for.
Jane and Sarah are back with another 10 Minute Masterclass, covering the subject of vine pruning - why and when it is done, who by, the difference between spur and cane pruning... and of course an obscure fact to round things off.
In this amazing podcast, Romané Basset speaks to Sarah Kemp about the many grantees and great work that they do, including Terra Uma, a non-profit programme helping veterans dealing with PTSD and other traumas, and the Pinotage Youth Development Academy in South Africa, and the Artémis Domaines scholarship for those affected by a geopolitical conflict. It's truly an inspiring and humbling listen, don't miss it.
A wonderful podcast with Sarah Kemp speaking to Marchese Lamberto Frescobaldi, 30th generation of a family that has been making wine in Tuscany since the 13th century. Lamberto grew up in Florence, studied in UC Davis in California, launched Tenuta Luce as joint venture with the Mondavi family and eventually bought back the Mondavi shares when Constellation bought the company. Today this is one of three Frescobaldi wines sold through the Place de Bordeaux, along with the iconic Masseto and Ornellaia.
What is it like to run one of the world’s most prestigious wine estates? Lorenzo Pasquini, who was born in Italy and dreamed of being a professional fencer when young, tells Elin about his life as Estate Manager at Château d’Yquem, and how wine beckoned after watching his father plant an estate. Lorenzo talks about his mentor Denis Dubourdieu, becoming the winemaker at Cheval des Andes at 26 years old, and how he could not turn down the ultimate golden wine job.
