Anwilka Stellenbosch 2015
Confident and tight tannins that put the older wines into perspective and show how this really is a wine that starts to sing after a good 6 to 10 years of ageing in bottle. Still knitted down at this point, with beautiful freshness and tension, plenty of bay leaf and fennel notes, fragrant with great potential. This vintage had a cold and wet winter, meaning late bud burst, and a long cool growing season overall, and yet there is concentration alongside the finesse. 50% 400l new oak barrels and 50% one year old barrels. 3.63ph. Refurbishments to the cellar meant at this time everything was being made in smaller vats, with greater plot separation from vineyard through to vinification.
