Allegrini Veronese IGT La Poja 2013
The leitmotif of the 2013 La Poja comes from the cooler milder conditions for much of the growing season, leading to a gradual ripening of the grapes and the harvest during the second week of October. On the nose, there’s almost a Northern Rhone Syrah-like florality, combined with bright red fruits, tar and spice. This carries through to a palate redolent with flavours of violet, raspberry, red cherry and a touch of eucalyptus. The wine remains bright and fresh and balanced throughout with ripe, fine grained tannins and lovely acidity. The tapering finish has a salty, savoury minerality and is impressively long.
