Au Bon Climat Santa Barbara County Au Bon Climat Chardonnay 1995
This stunning Chardonnay from the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard was a room-stopper of a wine when served at a wonderful lunch at Berrys Bros in London to celebrate Inside Burgundy and Inside Bordeaux being handed over to Jasper Morris and myself. At this point the flavours have evolved to brioche, mirabelle and soft white truffle, still with a core of vibrancy. 75% new oak for ageing. Clearly showing why this is considered one of America’s iconic vineyards, planted by Richard Sanford and Michael Benedict in 1971, turned into magic by Jim Clendenen.
