Castello di Fonterutoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG Badiola 2022
Translucent ruby red, just love this, a different expression of Sangiovese, serious, savoury, crafted, fragrant, with fine tannins. This one needs a little longer to fully soften but it is already mouthwatering, crunchy and ready for food. Opens beautifully, showing a curl of woodsmoke, and a ton of crushed raspberries, iris and rose petals, earthy yet finessed. These plots sit at 570-600m altitude, the highest and coolest of the Mazzei vineyards (brought back into their holdings in 1989), southeast and southwest facing, soils a mix of schist and sandstone, late ripening into mid October. 30% new oak, 500 litre casks than five months in concrete tanks.
