Château Ducru-Beaucaillou St Julien 1855 2ième Cru 1920
1920 marks the 200 year anniversary of the founding of the estate. This is still alive, with soot and rosebuds on the opening beats, followed by mandarin, orange rind, wild strawberries, forest floor, and lilting acidity. It’s delicate, fading, and yet way younger than it should be at 103 years old. The estate was under the ownership of the Johnston family at the time, who were in place from 1866 to 1928. Recorked in 2011, with the original vintage used for any refilling required.
