Château La Serre Saint Emilion Grand Cru Grand Cru Classé 2011
Floral edged, peony and rose, and again this lovely gentle smudge of smoke. Raspberry and blackberry fruits on the palate, there are fresh acidities here and it should age well, but there is an austerity to it that you find in many 2011s at the moment, particularly on limestone. Feels very Cabernet Franc in its expression, with slate texture on the finish and clear salinity. Less weight through the mid plate than the 2009 and 2010 vintages, but this has real charm, and highlights the limestone character clearly. 50% new oak.
