Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 1855 Ier Cru Carruades de Lafite 1966
Not showing full clarity in colour, but this is intense, full of character, and fabulously Pauillac, with soft crayon and gunsmoke, and still brambled black fruits, finessed with fine tannins that deliver memories of structure and depth. The label was different at the time, with Carruades given top billing, followed by ‘de Lafite Rothschild’, a good reminder that the Carruades plot, which today is largely used for the 1st wine, was known for its exceptional quality fruit right back in the 19th century. Baron Elie de Rothschild owner.
