Château Pavie St Emilion Grand Cru Premier Grand Cru Classé B 1998

More evolved than the 2000, showing waves of prune, saffron, violet, lavender and incense, alongside caressing autumnal loganberry and blackberry fruits. Soft plum-purple in colour with the first signs of bricking around the edges. A delicious moment to drink, this is really in a sweet spot. Tasted separately to the rest of the vertical, from a bottle I had at home. Jean-Baptiste Pion also joined as winemaker as of this vintage, the same year that Gerard Perse bought the estate.
