Château Rausan Ségla Margaux 1855 2ème Cru 1974
Beautifully soft tannins, fine rose petal fragrance, brambled loganberry and red cherry fruits, an impressive showing for a difficult vintage with few bright spots. Spelt with an ‘s’ on the label, in the years before the Wertheimer brothers of Chanel arrive and finally set it as Rauzan Ségla, and an unusual oblong-shaped bottle that was possibly a Cordier bottling. The château itself was owned at the time by John Holt, a naval defense company in Liverpool who had taken over Louis Eschenauer’s company in Bordeaux.
