Clos du Clocher Pomerol 1988
A little austere, taut tannins that weave through grilled dried herbs and blackberry fruits. As it opens, the aromatics turn caressing and billowing, drifting out of the glass with peony and crushed roses. Charming, with gunsmoke and ash on the finish, a grilled character that is a reflection of new oak levels that were rising a little at this point. Low yields after difficult flowering and fruit set, but a good dry summer.
