Clos du Clocher Pomerol 2001
This has a gorgeous sense of balance and finesse, with a blast of crushed mint leaf in the glass, along with blueberry and raspberry fruits, cured leather, smoked caramel and oyster shell salinity on the finish. A gorgeous wine, that builds in the glass, and gets better and better with an hour of opening. Generally 2001 was a great vintage in Pomerol, and the tannins remain soft, succulent and appealing. A rainy April, followed by great weather until July, when the reains returned, and then back to summer heat for August.
