Clos du Lican Apalta Valley 2021
Impressive, with a slender sculpted feel, savoury blueberry and blackberry fruit, oak already well integrated. Sweet spices, liquorice, cocoa bean, olive and espresso come through in the mid palate. The Syrah for this wine, on steep east-facing granite slopes, was planted 20 years ago, among the first wave for Chile. A cool vintage with harvest two weeks later than 2020 and 13 days than last 6 years average, and this is a storming second vintage of a wine that comes from grapes that when younger were part of the Lapostolle Cuvée Alexander. Andrea Léon technical director. Just 6,700 bottles made.
