Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg 2022
Plenty of torrefaction, espresso and mid-palate depth and substance. Lovely ripe fruit and underlying sap. The arc and structure impress mightily, as does balancing acidity revealed in the long finish with lift. Given how the 2015 tasted over dinner was still marked by oak-derived tannin and structure, this wine will need more time after it hits shelves in 2028 to properly enter a drinking window. 70% new oak, kept four years in bottle before release. Winemaker Cyril Chirouze.
