Clos Rougeard Saumur-Champigny Les Poyeux 2022

Wonderful wine in the making. Distinct red and black cherry, sous bois, hints of vanilla and freshness on the long finish. Tannins at once remarkable and refined. Winemaking assistant Etienne Bodet calls it very “terroir specific”, reflecting the concentration and depth of clays and refinement of limestone and sands. Two years aging on the lees and no racking, no new oak. Expected release in 2028.
