Le Puy Vin de France Le Puy cuvée Emilien 2018
Blackberries, raspberries, cocoa bean, liquorice, tobacco leaf, earthy unfussiness, a wine full of heart that has a cult following, and deservedly so. Long ageing means the tannins are already softened, and you can drink this wine – slowly, taking in every nuance – from now, but it will easily age for another decade or more. Located at 107m in altitude on one of the highest spots in Francs Côtes de Bordeaux but bottled as a Vin de France (they have also dropped the Château, and are now simply Le Puy). Owners Jean-Pierre and Pascal Amoreau are the 13th and 14th generation of their family at the property, dating back on this site to 1610.
