Penfolds Coonawarra Bin 169 2010
Inky plum in colour, the 2010 Bin 169 is an unusual vintage in that it comes from a single vineyard site, and needs time in the glass to open up as it is more concentrated than the 2008 and remains pretty closed on first pour. Kicks into action after a few moments, and shows a beautifully floral peony and rose petal mature Cabernet character. Still plenty of grip and character here, setting purity of blueberry and cassis fruit against mint leaf and sweet cola. 100% new French oak for ageing, with a touch of fermentation in barrel also.
