First time on the Place de Bordeaux for one of my hands-down favourite Chardonnays, filled with lime juice, savoury lemongrass, sage, slate, gunsmoke, white flowers, has uplift and balance, understated and restrained at first then juice-filled as it opens. So much to love here, so good. 60% new oak. Kym Schroeter oversses the white winemaking at Penfolds, working with Peter Gago, with the grapes drawn from Tasmania, Tumbarumba and Adelaide Hills.
