Philipponnat Champagne Clos des Goisses LV 1994
Clear honeysuckle, saffron and leather. So complex, this has depth and subtlety, and dances across the palate before finishing with a slate and saline twist. If you want to know what brioche means in a Champagne, drink this. A late harvest, low yield vintage, just 3,000 bottles but only 1,000 sold in the first release, with the rest kept on the lees (in bottle but not disgorged). Very low dosage at 4.5 g/l – making it an Extra Brut (as are all the Philipponnat Champagnes). You could clearly keep this for longer, but it is just so good to drink now.
