Château Le Pape Pessac-Léognan 2021
Sweet black fruit on the nose, then delivers finesse and savoury raspberry leaf, loganberry and red cherry character on the palate, with subtle pulses of white pepper and studded minerality drawing things out. Not the density of the past few vintages perhaps, but this is a delicous wine, well made and precise. 19hl/h yield, harvest October 1 to 11, as the Merlot here are often later ripening than at Haut-Bailly. First vintage with the new cellar for Haut-Bailly and Le Pape, with a mix of beton and stainless steel vats. Axel Marchal consultant.
