Top 20 châteaux on social media

The yearly ranking from My Balthazar showing how Bordeaux châteaux are performing on social media is out this week, revealing ‘the châteaux that count’ across a range of platforms from LinkedIn to Instagram, and in one overall ranking bringing all the platforms together.

The ranking lists châteaux according to their social media presence – evaluating their profile, the number of followers, how effectively they engage with individual posts and comments, and how many times their names are mentioned generally by users, in other posts and in hashtags.

Château Smith Haut Lafite (SHL) has been consistently at the top of the list over the last few years, but now Cos d’Estournel has just overtaken them, up three places from last year’s ranking. SHL is still in 2nd place, with Montrose rising 16 places to number 3. Other big movers are Phélan Ségur and Haut-Bailly, both up 27 places to no 9 and no 12 respectively.

No château retains the top spot across all social platforms. If you look just at Instagram, Lafite Rothschild is the Bordeaux estate with the strongest presence, as it was last year, followed by Montrose, followed by a massive rise of 137 points for Mouton Rothschild  up to No 3, proving the rivalry between the two neighbouring Pauillac estates is still strong…

Top on Facebook is Château La Gaffelière in St Emilion and on Twitter Château des Annereaux in Lalande-de-Pomerol. St Julien’s Château Lagrange performs most strongly on LinkedIn, with Mouton again on Vivino and Château de Reignac on YouTube (impressive for an AOC Bordeaux, even one with such a loyal following as Reignac).
